Despite the drizzling sky, Syrinx was delighted to join students of UWA’s 3rd Year Bachelor of Landscape Architecture Plants and Landscape Systems Unit on a wander around Wharf Street yesterday. Syrinx staff Rada and Kerry and the unit’s coordinator Christina Nicholson took students on a tour of the project, paying particular attention to its revegetated zones.
The project, which was completed in 2008, is an urban parkland that integrates best practice stormwater treatment with a broader understanding of the foreshore to create recreational and ecological links between the Canning River and the City of Canning.
The incorporation of best practice stormwater principles into the overall project have improved stormwater quality entering the Canning River, as documented by this Performance Assessment 2009-14 Summary Report, put together by the Department of Parks and Wildlife.
Other key outcomes of the project include the revegetation of the Canning river foreshore using endemic species, improved pedestrian access and the provision of an innovative landscape that offers significant value adds (recreational, aesthetic, biodiversity) to the local area.
